Agro-ecosystems management

Agronomy and management of agro-ecosystems

This disciplinary field covers the study of strategies, processes, actions and impacts associated with the production of cultivated plants. It encompasses agronomy, forestry, livestock sciences, environmental, soil, and water sciences, the biogeochemical cycles (water, carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus, etc.), ecology, natural resources engineering and management (water, cropping systems, production systems), agro-technologies, economics, information and digital sciences (especially spatial), and modelling.
It aims to describe and understand the diversity of agro-ecosystems, their functioning and dynamics, actors’ strategies and management methods, and their impacts and sustainability in economic, social and environmental terms. Its goal is to propose ways to improve these agro-ecosystems, especially by mobilising biodiversity and ecosystem services instead of chemical and mechanical inputs. The agronomy and management of agro-ecosystems community works on a broad range of cultivated plants, cropping systems and production systems in temperate, Mediterranean and tropical environments, from family farming to agro-industry.
