Closed Call
The Science Council of the Foundation met (by videoconference) on 1st, 2nd and 3rd April and drew up its recommendations on the projects to be funded under this call. As foreseen by the procedure, the results will be disseminated after discussion of the recommendations by the executive committee of the Board meeting on 29th April 2020.
Climate change, biodiversity, food systems: Agriculture-based solutions
The globalization of narratives, practices and institutions (values, norms, rules) affects agriculture as a whole and at many levels at the spatial, temporal and jurisdictional levels. At the same time, agricultural, forestry and other land-use activities are among the main drivers of climate change and biodiversity loss.
Global agricultural policies today face major challenges: feeding an increasingly urbanized world population that is expected to grow by nearly 2 billion by 2050, while addressing the major challenges of climate change and biodiversity loss. Food systems are also facing increasing societal demand to become more responsible by reducing negative externalities on the environment and human health, among others.
Scientists play a key role in various reflections, discussions and actions that contribute to meeting the challenge of the agro-ecological transition by promoting practices and solutions that conserve renewable natural resources and lead to more desirable socio-ecosystems. One way to achieve this is to mobilize research, higher education and training to achieve sustainable development goals (SDGs).
In order to promote the agro-ecological transition of tomorrow’s agriculture, the Foundation is now working on three transversal axes, with the approval of its founding members and its Scientific Council:
Axis 1: Agriculture and climate change: adaptation and mitigation;
Axis 2: Conservation and sustainable management of biodiversity;
Axis 3: Responsible production and consumption.
It is in this context that the Foundation’s new call for projects is launched, which encourages the research teams that are members of its network to position themselves on at least 1 axis and, if possible, on several, by identifying the best axis representing their research field, questioning the stakes of their research work, and by studying more particularly the potential interactions and contradictions between the SDGs and the Foundation’s 3 transversal axes.
The Foundation seeks to encourage and mobilize a combination of disciplines, review their research practices and ways of developing research projects. This call for proposals specifically invites proposals that include new collaborations between researchers, disciplines, approaches and methodologies (including participatory research, involving key stakeholders) to address, directly or indirectly, the challenges of sustainable development.
A maximum amount of €750,000 is available for this call, which will fund two types of projects:
- Type 1 projects: from 150 K€ (minimum) to 250 K€ (maximum).
Global financing available: 450 to 600 K€ Automatic line return
Project duration: maximum 36 months - Type 2 projects: from €20k (minimum) to €25k (maximum).
Global financing available: 120 to 150 K€
Duration of the project: maximum 1 year
The deadline for responding to the call for proposals is 3rd March 2020, midnight, Paris time.
