Nearly 40 scientists from Montpellier took part in the Science Week. They got involved into various activities.
Lectures
Several scientists gave a lecture to the participants of the Science Week: Marie Hrabanski (CIRAD), Benjamin Sultan (IRD), Jean-Marc Touzard (INRAE)…
Speed dating
About 20 scientists took part in a speed dating with the OPFP laureates and mentors, for potential new scientific collaborations between France and Africa.
Lab visits
Several scientists opened the door of their labs and provided the group with visits of their high technology infrastructures:
ARCAD genetic resource world-class center,
LEPSE high-speed phenotyping platform,
Maison de la Télédétection remote sensing laboratories,
Mas Numérique innovative digital technologies,
Montpellier University Spatial Center.
Hosting laureates for their AST internship
A pair of scientists from CIRAD and IRD will also be hosting an OPFP laureates for a period of 3 to 6 months to work on a specific scientific project.

Round-table discussion with IPCC authors

In June, Agropolis Fondation organised in Montpellier lectures and a round-table discussion with three IPCC authors on the theme of "Climate change in Africa".
Around 200 people, including the participants of the One Planet Fellowship Programme, attended the presentations given by:
• Aida Diongue Niang, Meteorologist and technical advisor to the National Agency for Civil Aviation and Meteorology (ANACIM) in Senegal and author in IPCC Group I (Physical and ecological principles of climate change);
• Edmond Totin, Senior Lecturer at the National University of Agriculture in Benin, and author in IPCC Group II (Impacts, vulnerability and adaptation to climate change);
• Nadia Maïzi, Director of the Applied Mathematics Centre at Mines ParisTech and author in IPCC Group III (Ways of mitigating climate change);
• Marie Hrabanski, Researcher in political science at CIRAD and co-leader of the "Climate Change" Strategic Scientific Field at CIRAD;
• Benjamin Sultan, Climatology researcher and Climate Change Scientific Advisor for IRD.

Conference
In June, Agropolis Fondation organized an Info Point conference at the European Commission’s International Partnerships Division in Brussels. The objective was to present the various components of the One Planet Fellowship Programme and showcase some early results.
The event was an opportunity to share insights on the role of science-career development programmes and how they can help to shape future climate change adaptation strategies and policies in Africa. Both programme implementers, namely AWARD and Agropolis Fondation, presented their institutions, first results and challenges. A laureate from Nigeria, who was the first young African researcher to start her Advanced Science Training in Europe this year, also gave a feed-back on her experience in University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
