Education is one of the pillars of Agropolis Foundation.
In terms of training, Agropolis Fondation supports the integration of master’s students, engineering students or doctoral students within units of the scientific network and within the framework of projects that it supports. It also provides financial support for educational projects that develop new teaching approaches, new modules or courses linked to advances in research.
Since its creation in 2007, Agropolis Fondation has funded 955 fellows of 79 different nationalities in collaboration with 490 partners.
Examples of projects that promote education set up in partnership with Agropolis Fondation:
- The One Planet Fellowship Programme is a programme for the training and involvement of future research leaders in the fight against climate change in Africa.

The One Planet Fellowship programme targets more than 600 young African and European scientists, who will enter a career development process aimed at developing their scientific and leadership skills. Agropolis Fondation is co-leading this programme funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation,the BNP Paribas Foundation,the European Union and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) to the tune of nearly $20 million over five years.
- AWARD : «African Women in Agricultural Research and Development» is a career development programme that aims to strengthen the scientific capacity and leadership of African women in agricultural research. Funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, this programme has been supported by USAID and the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (Agra).
Agropolis Fondation has been contributing to this initiative since 2010, in particular to strengthen the participation of Francophone African women scientists, who were initially not eligible for this programme. In 2019, the Foundation supported a training course on training engineering and pedagogy for 20 AWARD laureates from 10 Francophone African countries (Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Madagascar, Mali, DRC, Senegal and Togo).
- “Innovative co-learning for agriculture-based solutions” Call for proposals
This call aims to support innovative, cross-sectoral and interdisciplinary training or learning projects that promote agro-ecological transition through innovative approaches, tools, teams and networks. This will be done through the funding of different types of actions (partial or full post-doc grants, partial or full thesis grants, support to young scientists for risky projects, funding of research schools) to support research and training through research. For all these types of actions, the Foundation wishes to encourage and mobilize a combination of disciplines, approaches, methodologies and partners.
