Out of 142 applications received from 51 countries, the International Jury of Agropolis Fondation has decided to award the international scientific prizes to the following individuals and projects in recognition of their contribution to global sustainable agriculture, improved food security and nutrition.
The Louis Malassis International Scientific Prize for Agriculture and Food 2021 is awarded to:
- Dr Guillaume Martin, a French national from INRAe (France) - “Young Promising Scientist” category;
- Dr Bruce Tabashnik, an American national from the University of Arizona (USA) - “Distinguished Scientist” category; and
- Dr Felix Dapare Dakora, a Ghanaian national from the Tshwane University of Technology (South Africa) - “Outstanding Carreer in Agricultural Development” category.
The Olam Food Prize for Innovation in Food Security 2021 is awarded to the ‘Green Rodent Control’ project led by Luwieke Bosma, a Dutch national from MetaMeta Research (The Netherlands) and Dr Meheretu Yonas, an Ethiopian national from Mekelle University (Ethiopia).
The Shift Prize for Transformative Agroecological Research for Development is awarded to the project ‘Farming Systems Comparisons in the Tropics’ (SysCom)
, a collaborative project in Bolivia, India and Kenya, coordinated by the Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL, Switzerland).
Building tomorrow’s world agriculture
The Agropolis Fondation Louis Malassis international scientific prize has been in existence since 2010 and takes place every two years. Since 2015, Agropolis Fondation has partnered with Olam, and the Malassis prizes are awarded along with the Olam Prize for Innovation in Food Security. In 2020, Biovision, a Swiss-based foundation working on agroecology and sustainable agricultural development decided to join by adding the Shift prize for Transformative Agroecological Research for Development. “These three Prizes are intended to reward those who have made an exemplary contribution, through their training, research or development, to promoting innovations to improve sustainable agricultural and food production systems. The ambition is to help meet the food challenge and fight poverty across the globe.” said Dr Marie-Christine Cormier Salem, Director of Agropolis Fondation.
